Loran Navigation service ends in 2010

On Jan. 7, 2010, the U.S. announced it will begin decommissioning of all Loran-C transmitters on February 8, 2010. The service will continue temporarily to comply with Canadian agreements, but the Canadian Coast Guard has decided (not official) it will decommission its Loran-C system. Loran-C service ends February 2010

The U.S. Coast Guard published notice regarding its intention to terminate transmission of the LORAN-C signal Feb. 8, 2010. There is no information from the Canadian government about Loran service, so boaters should stop using Loran navigation equipment. [www.navcen.uscg.gov/Loran]
