Bill Norrie Circumnavigation runs into COVID-19
Calgary man Bill Norrie embarked on his 28-foot British Channel Cutter yacht Pixie for a solo circumnavigation of the world on Sept. 1, 2019 from Port Renfrew, BC. His goal was to sail the Southern Ocean beneath the world's five southernmost capes.
In April, south of Tasmania, a giant storm wave capsized his boat, destroying its electrical equipment and ruining his navigational charts. He managed to get to New Zealand, and was allowed to enter the country only after they inspected his GPS tracking logs and decided he was not a threat for the coronavirus (COVID-19). He is currently returning to Canada.
