Mark Ervin epic paddle of 'The Greater Loop'
June 1, 2022: Mark Fuhrmann, 64, began his solo kayak trip around eastern North America. He started in Halifax, making this gruelling journey 11,000 km, at least 3,800 km longer than the 'Great Loop', which turns north to Montreal Quebec at New York City. His route went up the St. Lawrence River, Ottawa River, Rideau and Trent-Severn Waterways, Georgian Bay, Lake Michigan, Illinois River, Mississippi River, Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Okeechobee Waterway, Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and Halifax.
Paddling about 40 km (25 mi) per day he planned to arrive back in Halifax by June 2023. His voyage is raising money for Captains Without Borders and Doctors Without Borders. Mark was born in Atikokan, Ontario (where Mike Ranta's also from), has lived in Vancouver and Los Angeles, and now calls Norway home.
