Canadian woman falls overboard in Atlantic
Dec/06: Laura Gainey, 25, was swept over the side of the Picton Castle Friday, about 760 km. off Cape Cod, Mass. Gainey, daughter of Montreal Canadiens' general manager and former NHL player Bob Gainey, was not wearing a life-jacket.
Daniel Moreland, senior captain of ship, said the crew continued the search through the night along with a Canadian Coast Guard C-130 aircraft, and a merchant marine tanker. The Picton Castle, a sail training ship based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, was caught in a gale enroute to the Caribbean. The second of its four voyages around the world was chronicled in a TV series “Tall Ship Chronicles”, produced in Canada in 2001/02. [CBC.ca | picton-castle.com]
